Laurel Meadow’s school counselors provide the following services for kindergarten through fifth-grade students:
- Individual counseling
- Group counseling
- Classroom lessons addressing academic, career, and social/emotional development
- Consultation and collaboration with parents, teachers, administrators, and the overall community
The mission of the Laurel Meadow Elementary School Counseling Department is to foster the academic success, career and college readiness, and social/emotional development of all students by providing a student-centered and data-driven comprehensive school counseling program. School counselors employ innovative and varied approaches to address students’ diverse needs, interests, and abilities through school-wide programs, classroom lessons, small group counseling, and individual interventions. They are dedicated to advocacy, collaboration, and championing equity and opportunity for all students. The program empowers all students to develop the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to become responsible citizens who are prepared to make positive impacts on their world now and in the future.
Hanover County Public Schools adheres to the American School Counselor Association National Model, which is a framework for a comprehensive, data-driven school counseling program.

Mrs. Germeroth is one of the full-time school counselors here at LMES. She received her B.A. in psychology and elementary education from Bridgewater College and her M.A. in professional counseling from Central Michigan University. This will be her 20th year as a school counselor. Her caseload for the 2026–2027 school year is kindergarten, second, and fourth-grade students. Mrs. Harvey is one of the full-time school counselors here at LMES. She earned a B.S. in child life from East Carolina University and a M.Ed. in school counseling from William & Mary. She has a background in early childhood development, curriculum, and therapeutic play in home, healthcare, and school settings. Mrs. Balderson has been a school counselor for 16 years. She received her undergraduate degree in psychology from Davidson College and her master's degree in school counseling from Old Dominion University. Mrs. Balderson enjoys cooking, walking her dog, and traveling with her family in her free time. She is excited to begin working with all LMES students, staff, and families and can be reached via email.
As school counselors, we work closely with the Family Engagement Specialist, Chelsea Moody, to support all families at LMES and AES.
Ms. Moody serves as the Family Engagement Specialist at LMES and AES. The purpose of the Family Engagement Specialist is to promote active engagement and communication among administrators, school staff, parents, and community leaders to improve student achievement and academic success. Ms. Moody earned a bachelor's degree in social work from Virginia Union University. She works at LMES on Wednesdays and can be reached at (804) 723-2053 or via email.
