Laurel Meadow’s school counselors provide the following services for kindergarten through fifth-grade students:

  • Individual counseling
  • Group counseling
  • Classroom lessons addressing academic, career, and social/emotional development
  • Consultation and collaboration with parents, teachers, administrators, and the overall community

The mission of the Laurel Meadow Elementary School Counseling Department is to foster the academic success, career and college readiness, and social/emotional development of all students by providing a student-centered and data-driven comprehensive school counseling program. School counselors employ innovative and varied approaches to address students’ diverse needs, interests, and abilities through school-wide programs, classroom lessons, small group counseling, and individual interventions. They are dedicated to advocacy, collaboration, and championing equity and opportunity for all students. The program empowers all students to develop the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to become responsible citizens who are prepared to make positive impacts on their world now and in the future.

Hanover County Public Schools adheres to the American School Counselor Association National Model, which is a framework for a comprehensive, data-driven school counseling program.

Laurel Meadow Elementary School counselors

Mrs. Kitching is going into her 4th year as a school counselor in Hanover and is excited for her first year at Laurel Meadow! She received her B.S. in Commerce from UVA, and her M.Ed. in school counseling from VCU. Mrs. Kitching is the full-time counselor and can be reached at 804-723-2040 or via email.

Mrs. Scott was a teacher in Henrico County for ten years before getting her master’s degree in school counseling from VCU. She loves working with children to help them be the best students and citizens they can be. Mrs. Scott is at Laurel Meadow on Wednesdays this year and can be reached at 804-723-2040 or via email.
